I think almost everyone goes through times in their lives where they have to wait. You’re at point A and you want to be at point B. Sometimes getting to point B requires time.
It’s as if you’re on an airplane on your way to Australia from London. You’re on this flight and you know that you’re going to have the best holiday ever. You’ve already booked your scuba diving session and you can’t wait to go stalk the guys from Bondi Rescue (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, go google it right now).
You board the plane with a massive grin on your face wondering what films they’ll have on their cute little mini screens and whether you’ll get a fresh bread roll with your meal.
Fast forward roughly 10 hours… there’s a child crying two rows in front of you, who has screamed so loudly he’s probably seconds away from puncturing his lungs. You’ve been seated right in front of the toilets, which are starting to smell. Your iPhone/iPad/laptop/whatever other electronic devices exist at the moment has run out of battery. You’ve watched all of the interesting films on your pee-sized TV screen. The guy next to you has been snoring for the past 4 hours and he’s starting to drool on your shoulder.
You look at your watch and realise you haven’t even reached the half way point. You are definitely not where you want to be.
That same frustration is what so many of us feel in our lives when we’re just fed up of waiting. Our patience has walked out the door and is nowhere to be seen. But you need to know that your destination is so worth it. That frustration about not being able to change the situation you’re in can be fist-clenchingly unbearable, I know. But sometimes that tough journey makes you appreciate the destination even more. It teaches you patience and gratitude.
This is why you need to keep going. Don’t lose sight of your destination. You’re going to get there but you have to sit still. Don’t stop dreaming and never stop praying. Wait in confidence.
God’s always on time.
