Arm yourself with The Word
Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “if you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’.”
Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written that ‘He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone’.”
Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put your Lord your God to the test’.”
The devil knows when you’re alone, hungry and weak. It doesn’t matter where you are or what you’re doing, the devil will try his best to steal, defeat and destroy. He is also really smart – he has the Bible memorised and he twists it to make you question your faith.
What I love about this story is that Jesus is hungry, He is tired and He is tempted to show the devil what he asks. But He manages to fight temptation by speaking The Word of God. He knows God’s word so well, that He can fight back simply through reciting the Bible.
This is why it’s so important for us to know the Bible and to know what we believe. Have you ever heard the saying ‘if you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything’?
When the storm comes in life and you’re left feeling tired and weak, the devil will see it. And he’ll try to do everything and anything to make you question your faith and walk away from God’s promise over your life.
Make sure that you’re armed, protected and ready for any battle that may come. The Word of God is powerful.
