Welcome to the first Wedding Wednesday of 2016! The first of many, I’m sure. For today’s post I recommend you get yourself a cup of tea and get comfortable – the story of how our wedding colour came to be is a long one.
Originally I had my heart set on light pink. Growing up I pictured my everything to be light pink; the bridesmaid dresses, my bouquet, the flowers on the tables, the invitations, EVERYTHING apart from my dress would be light pink.
So when we started planning, it was just assumed – our colour would be light pink. But within the first few weeks of engaged life (and 500 wedding magazines and a few too many hours on Pinterest later), I quite liked the thought of grey. A few people told me it was too depressing – especially for a Summer wedding. So instead, I came up with the idea of light pink and light grey – which Bradley agreed he also liked.
Around the end of November I started looking for the bridesmaids dresses. I searched high and low. I took Bethan (bridesmaid number 1) shopping and had her try on a couple of dresses. I literally spend days online getting really frustrated – firstly at the lack of bridesmaids dresses, secondly at the extortionate prices of the few bridesmaids dresses available and thirdly the amount of fake websites!?!?
For anyone looking for dresses online (prom/bridesmaid type dresses), if you’re looking at a website you have never heard of – give it a quick google before ordering anything. I found far too many sites that claimed to have amazing prices but reviews elsewhere said how they would send a completely different (and extremely cheap looking) dress and then would refuse a refund if/when someone complained.
Anyway, back to the story – I was getting really, really frustrated. In December I went for my dress fitting (the dress is coming along nicely, if you were wondering), and saw the most beautiful bridesmaid dresses in the corner of the shop. My dress maker explained that she was just altering them but told me where they can be bought (and their great price tag).
I went online and ordered them straight away. There were only a limited number of light pink dresses left, so I had no time to waste. I paid for the slowest postage (as you do), but much to my surprise the package arrived early the next morning.
Except all four dresses were in the wrong colour. They weren’t light pink, they were mink. And when I went back online, the light pink dresses were all sold out. I was faced with the decision of mink or back to square one.
Mink is a pinky grey, in case you’re reading and you’re totally confused. I’ll admit that at first I was unsure of the new colour, but once I tried it on for myself, had a google at mink weddings and spoke to my florist, I really really started to like the idea of it. It’s a pretty colour, yet it’s still somewhat different. So now I’m a total mink convert.
I’m going to show you the colour/material of the dress, but not the entire dress just yet… I promise I’ll show them fully after the wedding!
